No Time to Cry

grief-small

You’ve no time to cry
Everyone’s looking to you
To spring into action
There’s so much to do

There are calls to be made
Papers to sign
Decisions to make
In a very short time

You’ve no time to hurt
No time to heal
No time to think
No time to feel

Just focus on now
On the business at hand
Keep your mind steady
Stay in command

Don’t dare stop to think,
“What happens tomorrow?”
To do so will only
Consume you with sorrow

Don’t let one teardrop fall
Take a deep breath and swallow
For if one tear gets through
The rest will all follow

And once they start flowing
They never will cease
You’ll be broken and useless
Overtaken by grief

So hold your course steady
Resolve to be tough
You can only handle so much
And this is enough

But while you are at it
Keep this one thought in mind
There is One who is with you
In this horrible time

He’s working and helping
He’s right by your side
And He knows all the tears
That you still haven’t cried

When this is all over
You can collapse in His arms
And he’ll comfort and mend you
And keep you from harm

And then you can finally
Cry all of those tears
And safely give voice
To your unspoken fears

But until that time comes
And you have that relief
Know this, Child
He loves you
And He’s sharing your grief
