Dear God, Why Are You Allowing All of These Terrible Things to Happen?

Dear God,

There’s something that’s been on my mind for a while now, and I really need to talk to you about it.

You know that I love you with everything that I am.  Nothing will ever change that.

But I need you to know that right now I am very disappointed with you.

I’ve been watching with great concern as things get worse and worse around the world, and you don’t seem to be doing anything about it.

The poor are in need of food, clothing and shelter, but you don’t provide for them—even out of your great abundance.

Earthquakes, droughts, famines and floods have wiped out thousands, and you don’t send them aid.

Dreadful diseases afflict millions, but they find little hope of healing from you.

Children are being sold into sex slavery, and you’re not compelled to put a stop to it.

This world is in a free fall of moral decline, yet you remain silent.

People desperately need Jesus, but you don’t make the truth of his resurrection known.

Christians around the world are fleeing their homes in terror, and you don’t lead them to safety.

Evil forces are taking over and persecuting your people, and you do not come to their defense.

They’re being slaughtered in view of the entire world; still you don’t rise up to protect them.

How can this be?  My heart is broken by all of this.  Are you not even moved?

I’ve brought this to your attention time and again, still you do not respond.

My own children are suffering, but their cries go unanswered.

I would lay down my very life for them, but they find little relief from you.

How you can stand idly by while all of this is happening, and not be stirred to intervene?

You, who are righteous, and holy, and endowed with the fullness of love, mercy and compassion!

What more will it take to rouse you?  When will you rise up and do something?

This world is hurting and they need you.

What other hope do they have?

Please respond soon.

Love,

Christian
